South Vietnam (1955–1975)

Republic of Vietnam

Proclaimed south of the 17th parallel in 1955, the Republic of Vietnam fought a twenty-year war for survival that ended with the Fall of Saigon on 30 April 1975. The country was formally reunified with the North the following year.

At the height of the war, Saigon's Tan Son Nhut airbase was among the busiest airports on the planet, out-handling most of the world's civilian hubs.
